Conversation

I had dinner with my good friend Rob last night.

I love talking to Rob.

Spending time with good conversationalists is like being birds that fly together. You don’t know who is following whom but eventually you look down and you’re at a dizzy height.

For me, the effect of being in a great conversation is the same as running a long distance, or just sitting down to write. Thoughts stream from somewhere and take shape. And they often surprise you, because they come from a place that is not your brain chatter.

I realised, as we were talking, that one of the most beautiful ideas for me, is to think about the universe as a lonely, deserted place. No other observers. No other consciousness.

Just us.

And here we are, creating billions of thoughts, words, products, culture, literature, art and amazing dreams. Constructs of our imagination abound.

And one day, poof, an asteroid obliterates it. All of it. Never to be repeated.

Hope you had a nice flight.
